I came across this problem with a new laptop using windows vista home basic edition. What I did was download the cab file from the page: ( ) This gives you a zip file, the contents of which which you need to copy into c: windows system32 and that's the tricky bit as since I have Vista Home I don't have the appropriate privilage. (It's this privilage which more than likely gives you the failed to register error.) What I did was copy the contents of the zip file to a folder to which I do have access e.g. 'c: mscstuff' then wrote a bat file using the notepad editor containing the command: copy c: mscstuff *.* c: windows system32 and saved the text file as DOIT.BAT (or whatever.BAT). Here lies another hazard in out of the box Viata Home basic. Where to download missing Mscomct2.ocx. Chances are you are missing Mscomct2.ocx. Mscomct2.cab:: 12:58: PM. This package will not install these Common Controls if they do not already exist on the target system. This package cannot be uninstalled. Once you download the file, you'll need to extract the files and then register the OCX file. If you aren't careful (like me) you inadvertantly save the file as DOIT.BAT.TXT which is a text file, not a batch file. You need to change the settings in the explorer view so that you can see the extensions for known file types. In Vista it's different from everything that went before (of course!) so you need to use the ORGANISE button in the explorer window then the 'Folder and search options' to change the view so that the file extensions for known file types are not hidden. When you have established that the DOIT.BAT really is a bat file, you can right click on the DOIT.BAT file in explorer and use the RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR option. The files are then copied into the system32 folder. Mscomct2You're not quite there yet though. Next you need to find the MSCOM2.INF file in the system32 folder and right click on it again. Use the option INSTALL from the pop up menu. Mscomct2.cab InstallThe files should register properly. What I found really frustrating was that the MSCOMCT2.OCX was already in the system 32 folder. I can't understand why it isn't registered before you open the box, after all, how many existing apps must use the VB6 date picker? Hope that fixes it for you. Bob you need to install the reference on your machine. For full MS Access go to code Window, Select Tools>References Scroll down the list until you see 'Microsoft Windows Common Controls 2.' Go back to the above picture and look at the text i surrounded in black spray. Then open the bitmap you just extracted. Step 5: Edit it to your liking (it can't be bigger or smaller than the original in size, eg you cant make it 257x257 if it was originally 256x256) Step 6: now, save it as battle_rifle.dds. When the properties window comes up, go back to c2hr. Halo 2 modding tutorials. And tick the Check box by it. For Your runtime machines you need to either install the reference with your installation package or manually add it: regsvr32 'C: Windows system32 mscomct2.ocx' or whatever path you have on your machine. You should have full functionality once you have installed the reference.
